The story of this piece

Butterfly Cedar Diptych is shaped from an approximately 80-year-old red cedar from Cowichan Valley. Split across two panels, the impression opens like a pair of wings, with the living rings of the tree forming a quiet butterfly-like movement. The dark grain and warm gold accents give the piece a soft sense of motion, as if the cedar's memory had lifted from the wood into the room. Each piece is pressed entirely by hand, so the grain, ink and gold tones may vary slightly with the pressure of each impression. These natural variations make every edition singular and impossible to repeat exactly.
